ABS Electrical Diagnostics & Repair

A functioning ABS system is required by law—and critical for safety.

ABS Specialists in Lakeland, FL

An illuminated ABS warning light on a commercial vehicle is an automatic out-of-service violation during any DOT roadside inspection. At Nationwide Haul in Lakeland, FL, our technicians specialize in diagnosing and repairing anti-lock braking systems across all major platforms—Bendix, Wabco, and Haldex—keeping your trucks compliant and your CSA scores clean.

ABS faults are more than just a warning light. A malfunctioning ABS system compromises vehicle stability during emergency braking, increases stopping distances on wet or uneven surfaces, and puts your driver and other motorists at serious risk. Whether it's a simple wheel speed sensor or a complex ECU failure, we have the factory-level diagnostic tools and experience to identify the root cause and repair it correctly the first time.

ABS Services We Provide

ABS Fault Code Diagnostics

We use Bendix ACom and Wabco Toolbox to read, interpret, and clear ABS fault codes directly from the electronic control unit. These factory-level diagnostic platforms provide far more detail than generic code readers, allowing us to pinpoint intermittent faults, historical codes, and live sensor data. Every diagnosis includes a complete system health report so you know the full condition of your ABS.

Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement

Wheel speed sensors are the most common source of ABS faults. Road debris, corrosion, and vibration can damage sensors, tone rings, and wiring harnesses over time. We inspect sensor air gaps, test signal output, check tone ring condition for missing teeth or cracks, and trace wiring harnesses for chafing, corrosion, or broken connections. Sensors are replaced with OEM-spec components and calibrated to the correct gap specification.

ABS Modulator & Relay Valve Service

ABS modulators control air pressure to individual brake chambers during anti-lock events. When a modulator fails, that wheel loses ABS protection entirely. We test modulator valve response, replace failed units, and rebuild relay valves that feed the ABS system. Proper modulator function is verified with a full system activation test after every repair.

ABS ECU Repair & Replacement

The electronic control unit is the brain of the ABS system. ECU failures can result from voltage spikes, water intrusion, connector corrosion, or internal component failure. We test ECU inputs and outputs, verify power and ground circuits, and reprogram or replace units as needed. All replacement ECUs are configured to match your specific vehicle and axle configuration.

Trailer ABS Service

Trailer ABS problems are often caused by power supply issues rather than the ABS components themselves. We diagnose power line voltage from the tractor, test 7-way connector pin integrity, verify in-cab trailer ABS indicator lamp circuits, and trace wiring from the nosebox to each wheel end. Whether it's a blown fuse, a corroded connector, or a failed trailer ECU, we isolate and resolve the issue.

Warning Signs of ABS Problems

  • ABS warning light on the dash stays illuminated or flashes
  • ABS indicator light on trailer remains on during operation
  • Erratic braking behavior or unexpected brake pulsation
  • Wheel lockup under braking on wet or slippery surfaces
  • DOT inspection failure due to active ABS fault codes
